Sand Master Jam is now held each year on the second weekend in May and will be hosted by Sand Master Park for the next 3 years. With only a handful of participants the Jam was small but brought in the best of the best with world Champ, Digiácomo Dias, DRI Champ, Josh Tenge and world speed record holder, Erik Johnson, rippin' the new rail slides. Digi had to work for his "Big Air" win against the pros but came through with flying colors and a nice Super Man Front Flip. Josh Tenge took an expected win on in the rail slide competiton but Dias and Johnson were right there with him. Digi couldn't quite get his front flip all the way around off the 10 foot fun box, which would have assured him of another win. Johnson worked his front side back side slide, but again, couldn't quite pull it off to beat Tenge. Venomous team pilot, Alex King, missed this Jam however so the field was open for a new SMJ Champion. Junior Champion, Jeremy Tutarow, also was absent for the competition and the talented local boarder, Rodney Stryker, claimed his first competition title as the Sand Master Jam Junior Champion throwing a front flip for a Big Air win and sliding the popular 20 foot Rainbow Rail. All were glad to see sponsors, Xwest, Sandboard Magazine and Venomous Sandboards participate again at this years event. Sand Sports Magazine, Panoptics, Zardoz, L&M Catering and Buff also sponsored and supplied the pilots with plenty of good stuff for their efforts. The 2 day event saw 5 Oregon bands come in a make the kind of sounds the crowds like to hear. It was great fun and definitly the place to be for core sandboarding! Sand Master Park is located on hwy. 101 in Florence, Oregon and is situated just north of the Fred Meyer department store. There is no admission charge for spectators. A $15 entry fees for competitors gets you into all events as well as a generous competitors package. With a new game room and indoor sandboard/ snowboard simulator, Sand Master Park is a great location to bring your family and spend the day! |
